Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) is an anionic surfactant with molecules categorized as a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic group. The major raw material for producing LAS is LAB, manufactured by the alkylation of benzene with n-paraffins in the presence of hydrogen fluoride or aluminum chloride as catalyst.
