Dimer acids are dicarboxylic acids mainly produced by using dimerizing unsaturated fatty acids derived from oleic acid, tall oil, cottonseed oil, or canola oil. Dimer acids are mainly used in the synthesis of hot melt adhesives and polyamide resins. These are also used in adhesives, alkyd resins, lubricants, and fuel oil additives. Dimer acids are pale yellow colored, viscous, and transparent liquids. The non-toxic nature of dimer acid makes it widely preferred in its end-user industries.
