Chlorothalonil (2,4,5,6-tetrachloroisophthalonitrile) is an organic compound used as a broad-spectrum pesticide to control growth of fungi in vegetables, trees, small fruits, turf, ornamentals, and other agricultural crops.
Firstly, it controls fruit rots in cranberry bogs, and mold, mildew, bacteria and algae; and is used as an antifungal agent in paints. Secondly, it is also used as a wood protectant, pesticide, and acaricide. Thirdly, chlorothalonil is used to prevent leather and other fabrics from mold and mildew attacks.
